today was the most beautiful day. we met some amazing people who are working in Jacmel this summer. we are definitely looking forward to working with them in the future. meeting them was such an answer to prayers!
we had such a special evening with the izidors. we are all always joking that we are family, but everyday it becomes more and more real. they continue to amaze me each day. i am so thankful to be surrounded by such beautiful people living their lives for our God.
we ended the evening by playing “princess and the frog” for all the kids. all of the kids are officially finished with school so we decided to celebrate! [logan—all the kids say, “mesi mesi mesi anpillll.” and that they love you so much!]
kendy, who always puts up a tough exterior, came to sit next to me about half an hour into the movie. at first he made sure to not touch me, but slowly he laid his arm on my leg and I started playing with his hair. i could feel him slowly letting his front down and getting closer to me. when i glanced over at him i could see him starting to drift off to sleep.
it just melts my heart to see the older tough boys starting to grow closer to me and let me in like the little ones do so easily.
towards the end of the movie, modler moved to sit next to me. he laid his head on my shoulder and wrapped his arms around my waist. he kept squeezing tighter and tighter and moving closer. all the while, i kept playing with his hair and holding him.
after a few minutes of this he looked up at me and we just sat there looking at each other and holding each other. i whispered that i love him and he gave me the sweetest look of pure affection. and we just sat like that. both knowing how much we truly love each other.
and in that moment, i was again reminded of why i’m here. i’m here to show each of these precious children love like they deserve.
when the movie was finished, modler held my face in both his hands, whispered, “demen”, and kissed both of my cheeks. this night was a gift from God and an answer to so many prayers.
i cannot imagine a better goodnight kiss.
